Were you wrong about it sucking? Other than Rush and possibly Eli were there any other characters who were more than mere vanilla?
Ok I did like the Sargent with the attitude problem but only because he is the most likely to go postal on someone.
Okay, so I was just about to email you and ask what you thought of the show, but now I guess I don’t have to.
I spent a good few hours on the syfy forums talking about the show with people, and there were a lot of people that thought half the cast blew, and the videography blew, etc. etc., but I still loved the pilot.
Here are my gripes.
The entire female lead cast (with exception of TJ) sucks. They are one dimensional and lame. This leads me to believe that they will be used for practice-procreation or cannon fodder and little else. I hate them all.
Greer is my favorite after Eli, but they will probably Ford him by season 2.
Eli is awesome, but he will never be what McKay was – Ever. Rush is too cloak and dagger for my liking, and for all those that say SGU is a direct BSG clone (they are wrong), they have a point to an extent, because so far, Rush is looking a lot like Gaius Baltar.
I’m still on the fence about Young, but Scott is shaping up to be cooler than Shep.
Wray sucks worst of all, and she should have been sent to push the button.
I love the ship, and I hope they explore the hell out of it, unlike Atlantis – which had SO much exploratory potential.
CAN’T wait for the next episode!!!
I agree with you about the women… all the women. They are lame.
I also agree that they will Ford Greer which is a pity. He is probably the strongest character on the show.
I must disagree about Scott. He has no presence whatsoever and Sheppard would so mop the floor with that little punk.
It is obvious the writers did not consult their military consultant about sending someone “fresh from training” to the SGC. It would have been more believable had he been in special forces for a while and around 25 or 26. Top Secret Military operation are not going to recruit newbies.
The only thing in the realm of Scott is that they could if they were so inclined, do some major character development. But considering the major inconsistencies after season 2 of Atlantis I doubt they will ever get that far with him. Let us hope they decide to keep Young around.
The ship is freaking awesome! Although if it was to be unmanned why are there shuttles on it? The presence of atmosphere I will believe because they did say the Ancients were suppose to gate aboard from time to time.
I will watch the next episode because of the ship, but this is ST Voyager/BSG/Smallville/90210 all rolled into one. So much for thinking out side the box.
I wouldn’t say that about Greer, he’s good, but I feel Young is, when back at 100%, going to become the backbone of the show – Unless they turn him into the Hammond/Weir of the series.
As for Scott, I think they meant fresh out of SGC’s training – and I think for that, you have to have some sort of SF training.
And you will watch the entire season. I command it!
I will watch it but only because I want to be able to pick it to death.
